We are currently using the Employee Navigator system for our benefits management thru our broker. It has made the onboarding process much simpler and a bit more environmentally friendly by cutting out at least 40 sheets of paper given to all new hires. The system is very easy to use and if your payroll system is compatible, the elections could be imported for you -- what a time saver! Employees can also make changes and then you are notified of the changes to approve.
If you utilize the system to its fullest extent, it can be your HRIS! The system is also budget-friendly, as our brokers supply it at no cost.
  • On-Boarding -- you key in a few pieces of information, submit, and then in a few minutes, the new hire receives an email with login information.
  • Mobile Friendly.
  • The system notifies you when someone makes changes, so you can review and approve.
  • Very easy to navigate through the system.
  • Honestly, I haven't found anything that I would improve on, except maybe interfacing with our payroll provider (Certipay).
I Love it! On-boarding and open enrollment are so much easier now that they are almost paperless. The system is so easy to use and our broker does the back end work to keep the rates up to date.
The employees love that they can make changes and see how it will affect their paychecks.
  • Very positive impact on the employees -- open enrollment is a breeze! No more paper, and the dependent information is already there, they just have to make updates.
  • From the employer side, you can print off the changes and key them into payroll -- everything is in one place, and so easy to use.
  • The CFO is happy with the no cost, and less downtime with people asking about benefits.
Most of the systems I've used for HRIS systems have been part of the payroll system. What stands out with Employee Navigator is the ability to key your benefit changes into one place, and all vendors are notified of the updates -- no more logging on to three or more sites to make an address change to an employee.

Employee Navigator is in use across our company for staff paid time off, vacation requests, leave requests, team reporting, asset management, and benefits coverage. Our HR team manages the system itself, though every full-time employee uses and benefits from it. This solves our need for an employee benefits tracking system, but also adds asset tracking.
  • Time off requests. These are easy to perform and track as an employee and user.
  • Time off approvals. Couldn't be easier. Time of approvals or denials are sent via email and are one-click tasks. Also can be performed in the web UI, but it's so easy.
  • Manager reporting. Managers can easily see reports on employee time off and make decisions based on that.
  • Sign-in and authorisation. Employee Navigator does not use SSO or integrate with identity platforms like G Suite. As a security measure, we'd prefer not to use a separate username/password and instead default to an identity provider.
  • Visualisation. Employee Navigator has some great views, however reports are the most useful part of the platform as a manager. We'd like to have visualisation on those reports.
  • Department-based reporting. Right now there is no way for a manager to see 2 levels down for approved time -- it only seems to show you your direct reports' time off.
Employee Navigator is well suited to introduce the beginning of an HRIS to the organisation. There are excellent features for management to keep track of employee numbers and assets.
Employee Navigator is not so well suited as an employee hub. I think the next step here would be to evolve into a directory service that users can use to look up their coworkers' strengths and other work-related attributes.
  • Asset management has reduced device loss and expenses related to replacement or overpurchasing.
  • Time off requests and reports have introduced a method by which we can be alerted if a critical number of team members are not available at once.
Qualtrics is another big name in the space and was something I have a little experience with as a user. It does offer many of the same features, however, the user interface leaves a bit to be desired. Overall, we chose Employee Navigator for the employee experience and ease of use.
So far, we have had very little reason to call in to Employee Navigator support. Our team who works with them have found it easy and simple to work with them when needed. They aren't able to work on much or divulge how the system works internally, nor what's on the roadmap, but it is still helpful to have timely confirmation.
